Lucie Vermette has worked most of her life with humanitarian and social development organizations.

She is co-founder and president of Health Services International HSI (Servimed), an organization established to help Canadians obtain health care services in Cuba.

Following a very bad experience in the field of health services, she first discussed a project of medical tourism with Mr. Alexandre Rhéaume, who is today vice-president and co-founder of HSI (Servimed). It was on his suggestion that Cuba was chosen as the destination to obtain the best possible quality of health care.

Since its official opening in January 2007, there have been several changes and a rapid evolution of this small enterprise. More and more Canadians, and people from all over the world, come to HSI(Servimed) to obtain first-quality professional services.

Previously, Mrs. Vermette worked for a large non-profit organization which acts as a lobby and support group for small and medium-sizes business: The Canadian Federation for Independent Business (CFIB). She held the role of District Manager and was directly involved with the problems and concerns encountered by managers of small business. This experience was valuable to Mrs. Vermette in terms of human contacts and as an organizational challenge.

Throughout her career, Mrs. Vermette has devoted much of her time to the causes of creativity and young people. In this matter, she contributed to the creation of three organizations: LE PRIX DU MÉRITE CANADIEN *Jeunesse-Éducation*, of which she was co-founder and vice-president during 5 years.

She was also co-founder and CEO of: L’ESTIVAL JUNI’ART during 5 years. This was a recurring festival held in the historical old city of Quebec, that gave young talent a forum to show their artistic achievements.

She also contributed, as co-founder, to set up the Fédération culturelle québécoise d’expression jeunesse which was a re-grouping of youth festivals of the Province of Quebec.

Mrs. Vermette qualifies this period of work with young people as an intense experience.

At the beginning of her career, she held several positions, including director of an educative day-care center and public relations agent for a tourism organization.

In parallel with her regular work, Mrs. Vermette has always given her time and energy for the causes she believed in. She set up a recreation committee for the youth in her local community; she was involved in several education committees and participated in a number of youth education forums.

These experiences in the work-place have made Mrs. Vermette a dynamic person who, with her excellent team, is following her most recent passion: the development of medical tourism.
